What was at stake
These sites serve patients. The move included 13 medical fridges and freezers. Some held vaccines. Those fridges couldn't sit unplugged for long. The move also included 300 monitors and 150 computers. All of it had to be placed at the right desks in the new building.
How we ran the healthcare move in Prince George
We split the work across two trips.
In July, 2 movers and 5 installers spent four days at the new building. They installed furniture and equipment the client supplied, working from the floor plans. They worked alongside the general contractor and the equipment dealer.
On July 28, we drove up 975 BBX boxes [link: BBX boxes page] and 193 dollies. We split them between the two sites before the truck left. Each site got its own colour labels. That gave staff a month to pack.
We came back on August 27. The vaccine fridges moved first, at 8:30 am the next morning. Then the main move started.
Before loading the storage rooms, the crew photographed every shelf. At the new site, they unloaded everything exactly the same way. That way staff would find things where they left them.
On the two busiest days, 14 movers and 4 trucks ran between both sites and the new building. One team loaded at the old sites. Another placed everything at the new site.
How it went
On August 31, the crew finished final placement. They cleared out what the client wasn't keeping. Both old sites were handed back empty. The crew left for Vancouver by 1 pm. We came back in September to collect the boxes.
