Yes. Most full service moving companies in Vancouver will pack for you, either the whole house or just the parts you do not want to handle. The crew brings the materials, packs the rooms, labels the boxes and loads them. You can also book partial packing, which usually covers the kitchen, the artwork and anything fragile.

Packing is the part of a move people underestimate. The loading takes a day. The packing takes a week of evenings, and it is the week you are also working, sorting the kids and dealing with the lawyer. So it is worth knowing what you can hand over.

What full packing covers

Full packing means the crew packs everything in the home. That includes the kitchen, the closets, the bookshelves, the garage and the bathroom cupboards. You do not box anything. The crew brings boxes, paper, tape and protective materials, works room by room, and labels each box by room and contents.

Most full packing happens the day before the move, not the morning of. Because of that, you plan for a night in a mostly packed house. Set aside what you need for the night and the next morning, and tell the crew to leave that alone.

What partial packing covers

Partial packing is what most people actually book. You pack your own clothes, books and linens, because those are easy and you know where things go. The crew handles the parts that break or take skill:

Kitchen, especially glassware, dishes and small appliances
Artwork, mirrors and anything framed
Lamps, electronics and screens
Wine, records and anything you would be upset to lose

What packing does to the length of your move

A packed house loads faster. Loose items, half filled boxes and open drawers slow a crew down more than heavy furniture does. However, packing adds its own day or half day to the job, so the total is usually longer even though move day is shorter. What about the boxes

You can pack into cardboard or into BBX boxes, which are our reusable bins. We deliver them, you fill them, and we pick them up after the move, so there is no flattening and no trip to the depot. Cardboard is recyclable through the residential system, and Recycle BC has the current rules for what goes in which bin, but that is still a pile of cardboard sitting in your new living room for a week.
